If you’re thinking about eloping at Dead horse point state park, do it! This state park is by far my absolute favorite. Dead horse point is located in Moab, UT featuring a dramatic overlook of the Colorado River and Canyonlands National Park. The park opened to the public in 1959 and covers 5,362 acres of high desert at an altitude of 5,900 feet.
The first thing you are going to want to do is apply for a wedding permit with the park. This is a very easy process and the cost is only $60! Way cheaper than any traditional wedding venue. You will also need to apply for your marriage license in San Juan County, Utah.
The next step will be finding an officiant. You could also have a friend get ordained online! This process is also very easy and in some cases free of charge. My husband and I eloped at Dead Horse Point in 2021 and our close friend got ordained online as a Dudeist Priest. I know what you’re thinking, yes it is legal!
Now the fun begins! Location scouting was my favorite part of wedding planning. This state park has so many options for ceremony locations. I suggest anywhere on the right hand side of the park on the cliff edge.
The time of day you choose will effect the colors of your photos. Sunset or “golden hour” is always the best time to get all of the canyon’s colors in your pictures.
If you are thinking about Eloping at Dead Horse Point, do it!
