One of the most common questions I hear is, “How many hours of wedding photography do we really need?” For many couples, 6 hours of coverage is the perfect amount of time to document the most meaningful parts of the day without feeling rushed.
Below are example timelines for spring, summer, fall, and winter weddings in Utah. These timelines are designed to maximize beautiful natural light while giving you plenty of time to enjoy your wedding day.

With sunsets typically between 7:30–8:30 PM, spring offers comfortable temperatures and soft evening light. Remember the sun sets earlier in the mountains verses on or outside of the mountains.
Example 6-Hour Timeline including a first look:
2:00 PM – Photography begins
2:45 PM – First Look
3:15 PM – Couples portraits
3:45 PM – Wedding party portraits
4:15 PM – Immediate family portraits
5:00 PM -Ceremony
5:30 PM – Cocktail hour and candid guest photos
6:15 PM – Reception entrance, Dinner begins, Toasts
7:15 PM – Golden hour portraits
7:45 PM -Cake Cutting and First dances
8:00 PM -Photography coverage ends

Summer sunsets often happen after 8:30 PM, making later ceremonies ideal for avoiding harsh afternoon sunlight. Remember the sun sets earlier in the mountains verses on or outside of the mountains.

6:30 PM -Ceremony
7:00 PM – Cocktail hour and candid guest photos
7:45 PM – Reception entrance, Dinner begins, Toasts
8:45 PM – Golden hour portraits
9:15 PM -Cake Cutting and First dances
9:30 PM -Photography coverage ends

5:45 PM – Golden hour portraits
6:15 PM – Reception entrance, Dinner begins, Toasts
7:00 PM -Cake Cutting and First dances

Because the sun sets much earlier during winter, everything shifts earlier in the day.
