If you’re dreaming of a wedding day that feels beautiful, intimate, effortless, and completely focused on the two of you, a Laguna Beach City Hall wedding might be exactly what you’re looking for.
Tucked into the heart of Laguna Beach, California, Laguna Beach City Hall offers couples the opportunity to have a simple civil marriage ceremony without committing to a traditional full-size wedding venue. And the best part? You’re already in one of the most beautiful coastal towns in Southern California, so your wedding day can easily become so much more than just a quick courthouse ceremony.
Think: getting dressed somewhere beautiful, a sweet ceremony with your closest people, portraits around downtown Laguna Beach, ocean views, a champagne toast, and dinner at one of the many incredible restaurants nearby.
As a wedding photographer who loves intimate weddings, intentional details, and couples who care more about the experience than putting on a huge production, Laguna Beach City Hall is one of those places that makes a lot of sense for a 2027 wedding.

A courthouse wedding doesn’t have to feel like a courthouse wedding. That’s especially true in Laguna Beach.
Instead of spending your entire wedding day moving from one traditional venue to another, you can keep things simple and spend more of your day actually enjoying each other.
A Laguna Beach City Hall wedding can be a wonderful option if you’re planning:
The City of Laguna Beach performs civil marriage ceremonies outside in front of City Hall by appointment. The City currently lists ceremonies Monday through Thursday, with appointments beginning at 10 a.m. and ending at 5 p.m.; on alternating Fridays when City Hall is open, appointments run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. City Hall is closed on alternating Fridays, weekends, and holidays.
That schedule makes a Laguna Beach courthouse wedding especially appealing for couples who don’t necessarily need a Saturday wedding.

As of the City’s current information, the civil marriage ceremony fee at Laguna Beach City Hall is $100.
You’ll also need to obtain a California marriage license through a County Clerk-Recorder’s Office before your ceremony. Laguna Beach City Hall does not issue the marriage license itself, so this is an important step to take care of before your wedding day.
Because you’re planning for 2027, I recommend checking the City of Laguna Beach website directly when you’re ready to schedule your ceremony. City fees, appointment availability, and requirements can change.
Planning a Laguna Beach City Hall wedding is relatively straightforward, but there are a few things you’ll want to have lined up ahead of time.
Laguna Beach City Hall ceremonies are by appointment.
The City provides a City Hall Civil Marriage Ceremony Registration Form for couples requesting a ceremony.
You’ll need a marriage license from a California County Clerk-Recorder’s Office and should bring your original marriage license with you to your ceremony.
This is the part I would recommend thinking about before you book your ceremony time.
Your ceremony itself may be short, but that doesn’t mean your wedding day has to be.
One of my favorite things about a Laguna Beach City Hall wedding is that you can turn a simple civil ceremony into a full Laguna Beach elopement experience.

You could celebrate with:
You don’t need a traditional reception venue to make the day feel like a wedding.

This is where I think Laguna Beach really shines. You can start with your ceremony at City Hall, then spend the rest of your photography coverage exploring the area.
Rather than photographing only the ceremony itself, I love the idea of building your timeline around the entire experience of getting married in Laguna Beach.
For example:
10:00 AM — Meet at City Hall
10:15 AM — First look + portraits
10:45 AM — Civil ceremony
11:00 AM — Family photos
11:20 AM — Newlywed portraits around Laguna Beach
12:00 PM — Walk through downtown + candid photos
12:30 PM — Champagne or coffee stop ( I know the perfect one!)
1:00 PM — Lunch or intimate wedding dinner
Of course, your timeline can look completely different.
If you’re traveling to Southern California for your Laguna Beach wedding, I actually recommend giving yourselves more time than you think you need. You don’t want the entire day to feel like you’re racing from one thing to the next.
One of the biggest reasons I love the idea of a Laguna Beach City Hall wedding is that you’re surrounded by so many different backdrops.
You can get a mix of:
Your wedding gallery can feel much more like an editorial California elopement than a traditional courthouse gallery.
And if you love the idea of having both digital and film wedding photography, Laguna Beach is especially beautiful on film. The architecture, ocean, neutral tones, greenery, and soft California light all lend themselves beautifully to a timeless, slightly cinematic gallery.

This is an important detail for anyone hiring a professional Laguna Beach wedding photographer.
The City of Laguna Beach currently requires a Professional Still Photo Permit for professional still photography on City property, including beaches, parks, streets, sidewalks, and buildings.
The current fee is $100 for two hours, with additional hourly fees after that. During the summer season, permits have specific time restrictions; outside of summer, professional still photography can generally be permitted from 7:30 a.m. through sunset. Applications must currently be submitted at least two business days before the photo shoot.
Permit requirements can change, so your photographer should confirm the current rules with the City before your wedding.
This is one of the reasons I help my couples think through the logistics ahead of time. The goal is for you to show up, get married, and enjoy your day—not spend your wedding morning trying to figure out permits and locations.
If you’re imagining a traditional 75- or 100-person wedding, City Hall probably isn’t what you’re looking for.
But for an intimate Laguna Beach wedding, courthouse wedding, or elopement, it can be a beautiful starting point.
And if you want to invite more family and friends, you don’t necessarily have to choose between a courthouse ceremony and a larger celebration.
You could have your legal ceremony at City Hall and then host everyone afterward at a restaurant or private venue. That gives you the best of both worlds: a meaningful, intimate ceremony and a celebration with the people you love.
If you decide you’d rather exchange vows somewhere with an ocean view, Laguna Beach also has a separate permitting process for weddings at beaches and parks.
The City currently requires wedding permits for ceremonies on its beaches and parks, with specific locations and attendance limits. Wedding permits are generally issued for a two-hour period, which needs to include setup, the ceremony, photography, and cleanup.
This can be another beautiful option if you’re planning a Laguna Beach elopement or intimate destination wedding and want the ocean to be part of your ceremony itself.

If you’re planning a Laguna Beach City Hall wedding for 2027, I’d love for your photography to feel like more than simply documenting the moment you sign your marriage license.
Your wedding day deserves a gallery that captures the entire feeling of the day.
The getting ready moments and the nerves before the ceremony.
The way you look at each other when you’re finally married.
Your parents watching from the side.
The walk through Laguna Beach afterward.
The champagne toast.
The ocean.
The little in-between moments that you didn’t even realize were happening.
My approach to intimate weddings and elopements is a mix of intentional direction and candid moments, with true-to-color digital photography and 35mm film woven throughout your gallery.
I want your photos to feel timeless and romantic without feeling overly posed or overly edited.
And because smaller weddings give us more freedom with the timeline, we can actually slow down and make space for the photos that you’ll want to remember.
You don’t necessarily need eight hours of photography for a City Hall wedding.
For many couples, 2–4 hours of photography coverage can be plenty.
Great for couples who primarily want:
This is one of my favorite options for a courthouse wedding.
You can include:
Perfect if you’re turning your courthouse wedding into a full Laguna Beach elopement experience.
You can slow down, include more family and friends, spend more time on portraits, and finish with an intimate dinner or sunset portion of the day.
The right amount of coverage isn’t really about how long the ceremony lasts. It’s about how much of the story you want documented.

If you’re a couple who doesn’t want a huge traditional wedding but still wants your wedding day to feel intentional, beautiful, and special, I think a Laguna Beach City Hall wedding is worth considering.
You can keep the ceremony simple without making the day feel simple.
You can wear the dress. Carry the bouquet. Have your closest people there.
Take beautiful portraits. Eat somewhere incredible. Walk along the coast.
Open a bottle of champagne. And actually have time to enjoy being married.
That’s the beauty of an intimate wedding in Laguna Beach.
It doesn’t have to be complicated to be meaningful.
If you’re planning a 2027 Laguna Beach City Hall wedding, Laguna Beach courthouse wedding, or intimate Laguna Beach elopement, I’m currently accepting wedding and elopement inquiries.
I photograph intimate weddings throughout Laguna Beach, Orange County, Southern California, and beyond, using a combination of digital and 35mm film photography to create a gallery that feels romantic, timeless, and true to the day.
